Here are some excerpts from Mormoniana

In “The Swirling World of Ersatz Earth, David Fletcher” (painting by Lane Twitchell) writes directions in the piano score to tell the pianist to follow the yellow path of the painting, “Start lower left corner, following the roadmap.” As the journey goes deeper and deeper into the painting, the music becomes more agitated and more densely layered.

Crawford Gates composed “Winter Radiance” after a painting by V. Douglas Snow of the same title. It depicts Lake Powell. The score is divided into three sections, Part 1: The Blue Lake; Part 2: The White Clouds; and Part 3: The Sandstone Cliffs.

Todd Coleman’s “Exquisite Corpse” is performed by pianist and digital audio tape. Using the imagery of the photographs (by Thomas Epting, Matthew Day, and Natasha Layne Brien) as a structure, the composer quotes three other classic works that comment on the cycle of life, Brahms, “Lullaby”, John Cage Music Prepared Piano, and Purcell’s “When I Am Laid in Earth.”
